PRESS RELEASE: MISSION TO HAITI

Haiti was heard from the heart of Americans united with one purpose at one of the most difficult times in America, but that didn’t stop us from having a heart to help out the second most impoverished country in the world, our neighbor, Haiti.

We heard the cries of the children, men and women eating mud cakes which are literally mud, salt, starch, and water baked in the sun. Conditions are deplorable with inadequate water, shelter, medicines, clothing, personal hygiene, education, and jobs. Americans rallied on December 19, 2008, several national and local Palm Beach County organizations delivered the much needed assistance to residents of Haiti. The mission primarily provided aid to those affected by four recent major hurricanes and floods. The shipment is valued at more than $1 million and was delivered to the needy in Port-au-Prince as well as to areas outside the Haiti capital, including Gonaives and neighboring towns. American Airlines provided an Airbus A300 aircraft and thirty employees including William Dise, Nancy Hummel, and Nancy Rivard to deliver food, medical supplies, school supplies, computers, baby products, clothing, toys, personal hygiene items, and various other much needed resources. The flight to Port-au-Prince departed from Miami International Airport.

The national contributors were the Church of Latter Day Saints, Project Care and Kids Against Hunger. Local contributors from Palm Beach County included, Hands Together of the Palm Beaches, Cardinal Newman High School, Friends of the Orphans, Palm Beach Medical Society, Channel 12, Renee Morrison, Josee Palmieri, and Amanda Schumacher, Founder of the Tree of Life Foundation International.
